Morning guys,
I am having trouble installing fglrx onto 13.2. I have tried the 1 click install which after a reboot always puts me to a console login, i have then proceeded to try sebastians way which does the exact same.
This is from a clean install & update after sebs way

The driver seems to load fine, and Xorg just seems to quit normally.
Does/did X start without the fglrx driver?
Can you start it manually from text mode? I.e. try to login as root and run “startx”, does that make a GUI start?
What display manager/desktop environment are you using?
Try to set DISPLAYMANAGER=“xdm” in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager as a test. Do you get a login screen then?

Yes it starts with the clean install radeonhd drivers
Can you start it manually from text mode? I.e. try to login as root and run “startx”, does that make a GUI start?
If i login as root and startx, the desktop will display for a second or 2 and then back into console
What display manager/desktop environment are you using?

Doesn’t matter really.
The RPMs in the repo are actually created with Sebastian Siebert’s script, so they are exactly the same.
The main advantage of the repo (1-click install) would be that you get updates automatically.
But since you already used the 1-click install, you should have the repo added to your system. So you could also just search for fglrx in YaST and install it there, no need to add the repo again.
Or run “sudo zypper in fglrx64_xpic_SUSE132”.
changing to xdm DOES indeed work, and gnome loads just fine afterwards

So the problem is actually restricted to gdm apparently.
It’s just strange that “startx” didn’t work then, maybe GNOME doesn’t support to be started any more via startx? 
No idea if you want to debug this further, gdm’s logs should be in /var/log/gdm/, or in systemd’s journal (you can access that with journalctl).
There is a GNOME update pending (should be released in the next weeks), maybe this would fix the problem already, no idea.
But you could of course also try a different display manager, lightdm e.g.
Just install it and configure it in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager.
I hope not, so used to startx. Lol

startx should work out of the box without uncommenting anything.
But not if you run it as user.
X doesn’t have the suid root bit set any more since years (for security reasons), so you’d have to uncomment a line in /etc/permissions.local to add that again.
I suggested to login as root and run “startx”, this should have worked. You tried as user?

Unfortunately I don’t know what you should look for in the journal either.

Yes you are correct, for root startx works out the box but normal user requires the uncomment. Unfortunatly when startx for root user this time, the desktop background would show for maybe 1-3 seconds and then disappear back to the console mode again, which i did think was weird. I will have a better look in journalctl for anything with gdm.

Modify the displaymanager setting in /etc/sysconfig/ (you can do this
from yast using the /etc/sysconfig editor) and change it from gdm to kdm
or lightdm. gdm doesn’t like this driver for some reason.
I have the same card and had the same problem. I’ve reported the issue
to Sebastian, and he said he’d look into it.

The error is reported in the Xorg logs.
The problem is a missing exported symbol that causes gdm to crash.

Got it working by editing the file mentioed before and changing to xdm. Cheers for explaining a bit about the problem
