Few questions: bright colors & other things

Hey. I’ve just finished installing the beautiful openSUSE 11.0 64-bit with Gnome, and it went like a charm. I just have a few questions pertaining to openSUSE.

It seems some colors look very bright. I’m coming from Linux Mint and the color tones were just perfect. Now, when I open a website and it’s got lots of white it just hurts when I look at it. Especially Gmail, and also this site. Looks like differences between those colors aren’t that good or something. What can I do about it? Changing the monitor’s brightness itself physically isn’t the most efficient way. I also checked the Themes, but that doesn’t really seem to matter.

Another question: because this is the first time I’m using a 64-bit OS, are there any things I should particularly keep in mind? For example, 32-bit software and how it goes with 64-bit OS? How is performance of openSUSE 64-bit compared to 32-bit?

Another question: must I manually install an ATI driver? I haven’t seen any notification about it all, but please tell me how I should advance with this. I tried to install the driver before on Mint, and it always gets messed up.

Thanks very much for the coming answers, and thanks for the great OS

Find out in the opensuse database if the ATI is supported , if so the best way to include the opensuse Ati repositories to you’re repositories and yast will take care for installing.
If the correct driver is installed than the monitor
works better.
When you’re installing a software yast will choice with one should be installed 32 or 64 bits version
not every peace of software has already a 64 bits version.
But 32 bits run on 64 bits box
The performance is not only depending on the fact you’re running 64 bits or 32 bits version.

Alright, I think I got it down.

I did a reinstall, though, just to have it all clean. Same problem, but at some point, I don’t know why, the 2D graphics looked good after a restart and I was surprised. Then I did the repository thing with the one-click install ( ATI - openSUSE ) and it seems to work fine. Good stuff, thanks

Only problem now is that it looks like Blender is not fully using 3D acceleration. Or it’s my imagination. When I was still on Mint, it was noticeably faster. Any idea what I should do about that?

Can not help with Blender hopefully somebody els can

Somehow it got worse: the Blender screen is ripped in two, and it’s all scrambled. Upon exiting it, openSUSE don’t look too good either anymore, as it’s missing parts of the GUI such as buttons and date/time in the lower bar.
