Hallo Leute,
ich bin ganz neu dabei Linux auszuprobieren. Mein Problem
ist ein wenig schwer in einem Wort bei der Suche zu definieren.
Ich habe dieses Thema mal in dieses Forum gestellt weil ich vermute
das meine NVidia Grafikkarte evtl. die Ursache ist.
Also: Ich habe mir in dem VMwarePlayer unter Win 7 auch das Linux
SUSE 11.2 installiert.
Soweit so gut, mein Problem liegt darin das der Inhalt von geöffneten Fenstern (Browser, Dateimanager) Riesengroß dargestellt wird…
Der Desktop mit seinen Symbolen oder die Symbolleiste am unteren
Bildschirmrand wird aber Korrekt dargestellt.
Das System hat auch die Auflösung für meinen 24" Bildschirm korrekt
mit 1920x1200 erkannt und selbstständig eingestellt.
Da auch unter Windows 7 die Treiber für die Grafikkarte nochmal von Hand installiert werden mußten, habe ich über Google einen Treiber für das SUSE 11.2 gesucht und auch gefunden.
Habe dann in dem Yast die Url eingegeben und dann wurde auch ein
Repositori installiert.
Das änderte aber nichts an der Darstellung innerhalb der Anwendungsfenster, es ist immer noch alles Reisengroß…
Hat da jemand mal einen Tipp? Ich denke es liegt jetzt nur noch an meiner mangelnden Kenntnis von Linux…
Bist du sicher, dass der VMWarePlayer deine Grafikarte zum Gastsystem durchreicht? :sarcastic:
Bitte schau dir die Dokumentation von VMware an, wie man die Gasterweiterungen für Linux installiert, bzw wo man die ISO dafür herbekommt, die Gasterweitertungen wurden das letzte mal als ich den VMWare Player benutzt habe eigentlich nicht mitgeliefert (kann ja jetzt aber anders sein, da ich schon lange nicht mehr den VMWarePlayer benutz). Die Gasterweiterungen habe ich dadurch bekommen, dass ich auch die VMWare Workstation installiert habe und dort meiner virtuellen Maschine die Gasterweiterungen ISO zugeteilt habe.
Wenns ein bissechen umfangreicher sein darf (also Installation inklusive Gasterweitertungen) empfehle ich dir VirtualBox auszuprobieren.
Ooops ! Das mit VMware habe ich gar nicht mitgekriegt.
Ich habe keine Erfahrung mit VMware, scheint mir aber logisch den VMware Gast Kernel zu installieren (?)

Please people, stick to the forum language, i.e. english. This way any solutions would only be available to german speaking users, so please stick to english.
Ooops ! I overlooked the fact that you were using VMWare.
I don’t have experience with VMWare, but it seems logical to me that you should intall VMWare guest kernels (?)
Either zypper in vmware-guest-kmp-default
or zypper in vmware-guest-kmp-desktop
Without wanting to high-jack the thread (we may continue to discuss this in a different location).
This would be correct if the original poster is able to speak English. Although there is an outer German forum he could use, according to the rules of this forums, if he is on one hand requested not to cross post and on the other he posted here (for whatever purpose) then he is completely compliant to the rules.
The argument proposed above does not even hold if the poster is just not “comfortable” with English. I could argue: “this way any solutions would only be available to English speaking users”.
Although I can understand the reason of your post, it is not correct if considering the forum rules (we had this before in the past, I recall). Bilingual answer post with courtesy translation of the poster may apply where the resources are available.
I guess this is the “price” of having an international forum (as long as you do not change the rules).
The thread opener was asking for help for a display content size problem.
He is using Vmware Player hosted on Win7 and installed opensuse as a guest for his first time.
He thinks opensuse did set the correct screen resolution (1920x1200) and it appears that the desktop icons and the taskbar does have the correct size, however the file brwoser and internet browser do show their content in a enormous size and that is what he wanted to be changed.
He tried to solve the problem by installing nvidia driver packages because of his nvidia card but for sure since this is a virtual machine the problem still exists.
My reply in short:
I’m sure your graphic card is not directly accesable in VMWare Player so please take a look at the documentation provided by VMware how to install their guest tools.
This tools may not be provided by the vmware player but he can try to install the vmware workstation too and mount the guest tool ISO file there. For starting up the VM he can use the vmware player again.

Das mit dem Englisch und Deutsch ist hier ein bisschen komisch.
Ich habe mich auf der URL: de.suse.org angemeldet, bis zu dem Forum ist sonst alles Deutsch…warum soll ich auf einmal in Englisch schreiben?
Naja, die meißten regen sich ja nicht darüber auf!

das Problem hängt damit zusammen das es eigentlich einen unabhängigen site mit unabhängiger Registrierung giebt. Den Link dazu gibt es auf dieser Seite am unteren Rand. Viele Nutzer nehmen irrtümlich an das dieser Site auf Englisch ist. Aber in den FAQs und Forumrules kannst du lesen das es sehr wohl möglich ist, in der Sprache zu schreiben die dir am geläufigsten it. Vielleicht wirst du aber in diesem “internationalen” Bereich mehr Antworten erhalten wenn du auf English deine Antwort formulierst, aber obligatorisch ist dies beleibe nicht.
Viel Glück zu deiner Problemsuche. (Es sind effectiv die “Guestadditions” zu installieren, damit wird das “scaling” des Fensterinhalts generell jedesmal angepasst (jedenfalls ist dies bei mir so wenn ich XP virtualisiere)).

The problem stands in the fact that there is an independent site for opensuse in German (the link can be found in the lower part of the page). Many users erroneously suppose this site to be obligatorily in English. However, in the FAQs and forumrules you will read that it is well possible, to write in the language that is for you most convenient. Notwithstanding is it possible that you will obtain more answers, in this “international” part of the forum, if you decide to formulate your question in English. In no case this means you being obliged to do so.
Good luck with your request. (Effectively you have to install the guest additions. The windows content will then be rescaled automatically to correspond to the windows size (at least with me this is the case when I do virtualize XP in Opensuse)
