FATAL messages when updating kernel in 11.1

When I update to the latest kernel in OS 11.1, I receive, as part of the total messages:

Are any of the FATAL messages serious ? How do I resolve them ?

When you say you update, do you mean you have downloaded a kernel yourself? If so, you need the whole of the source tools to compile it.

The openSUSE team supplies a kernel that it has compiled and automatic updates to that don’t normally cause problems. The last one arrived only a few days ago.

No I am not manually downloading a kernel but installing a new one in the update process. I am using Smart, but I think that YAST would update me in the same way.

The one that came a few days ago is Linux 2.6.27.39-0.2-default i686

Is that the one you are having problems with?

Obviously, from the message in my OP. But the same FATAL remarks occured when I updated to the previous kernel. The FATAL remarks do not seem to matter, since I can boot into OS with the latest kernel but I am wondering what they mean.

Sorry, didn’t look far enough back through the messages; I haven’t been able to find the messages in my log file but then I’ve never looked for them after a kernel update as there have never been any problems. So I may have received them and not realised it.
