Fatal error after update

Hi again. After I done the update from the terminal, it said to me to do a reboot, I done the reboot and after I typed my password, fatal error.

The error was: “Could not start kdeinit4 Check instalation”

What to do, why that error ? Now I try to repair from my DVD.

Thanks,
NicK

Are you updated your Qt packages? It was a KDE 4 Factory update?

I think it was, I tried to update my graph card and some builds.

I tried to repair with my suse DVD but I couldnt because it says that Im using a different version…

Instead I know what cause the problem, when I updated from terminal I had a error, “Error code: connection failed”

before my rescue dvd said to me that I`m using a different version it said that I have problems in those packages: cups glibc-locale hal ntp postfix

The only solution in my view is to reinstal SUSE

I have the same problem before 1-2 months ago, and I did a reinstall (not really civilized method for solving problems :)).
Read this post: kde4 upgrade - openSUSE Forums.
Try to delete your plasma-appletsrc and plasmarc files in ~/.kde4/share/config.
Good luck

Thanks but I can`t log in, it works fine until I type my user name and password and push enter when my desktop is loading it appears that error with kdeinit4 any solution ? or reinstal ? I tried in safe mode and the same error… :frowning:

Hi
:frowning: sorry about the update… did you update to KDE 4.1 as well? If you
press ctrl+alt+F1 and you should get a console login. From there try
running the CLI update commands again.

I use a DSL internet connection and I need to log in to connect to the internet… so… why to do CLI update again when I don`t have a network connection ?

BTW, If you are logged into the konsole, try to delete the config files^^.

If you will write the sentence of that (the way of how I will do) it will be so wonderful, as I said, I`m new in Linux, so please be patience with me… :frowning:

Now I will try what said malcolm but I dont think it will work, as I said I need to connect to the internet... but I cant because I cant acces desktop, I think I updated KDE but Im not so sure about that

Maybe your connection manager have some command-line parameters to connect to the internet. Google for it.

To delete your config files:

rm /home/<yourUsername>/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc
rm /home/<yourUsername>/.kde4/share/config/plasmarc

Replace <yourUsername> with your home folder name.

Those pictures are for malcolm… I will try what you said ram88, I wait for other opions. Thanks all for helping me.

Hi
I would only have the oss, non-oss, update and packman repositories
active at any one time, the only thing that you need from videolan is
libdvdcss(2) and this can be obtained via http or wget and installed
manually. If your using VLC get the packman version.

You can also use YaST from the CLI as well…
