I am just starting with Linux and I have installed Tumbleweed and updated with the latest. At the moment, I have one issue which I believe is pretty common with Linux. My Fan is running at full speed for no apparent reason. CPU is barely utilized. I have enough RAM (64G). What I have done up to now is installed TLP, and Thermald after reading a couple of post. I have tried to play with cpupower to set the governor to powersave but to no avail. I am using KDE with all the latest. For the sake of testing, I did run ubuntu 20.04 vanila and do not have that issue. I would prefer to stick with Opensuse, because of Yast which allows me to be able to do stuff without having to type command lines. Any help is much appreciated of course because the noise of the fan makes my rig unusable.
You don’t say if fan control is enabled in BIOS/UEFI. For AMD boards it’s called Cool n’ Quiet, other mobos have different names.
On modern boards there’s even a fan speed profile (a speed x temperature curve) you can edit.
Unfortunately no fan controls in the BIOS.
I have got an Intel laptop (no AMD).
Most Intel motherboards also have this as I indicated in my previous post, be it BIOS or UEFI. Look for something called fan control or any setting with “fan” or “cool” in the name.
