Fan Disabled - IBM G40

Good day.

I am a newbie to Linux. I have just installed OpenSuse 11.2 on my IBM G40.

Kernel 2.6.31.14-0.1
Gnome 2.28.2

Model 2388CU2
Memory 744.0
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.4
BIOS Version 1TET97ww (1.12)
21.5 GB

I hope this is enough info … no idea what I should be posting though.

In the System Monitor under ThinkPad it says that my fan is disabled. As I don’t want to cook my computer, what should I do?

I am searching various forums and the internet but haven’t come across a solution yet. I am hoping someone can point me to a post or instruction package that will sort this out so I can spend some time learning how to use this.

I will check back later today to see as I do not want to risk overheating my computer right now.

Thank you for your help.

Wes

No idea if this is of use but I installed and ran sensors

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +52.0°C (crit = +90.0°C)

thinkpad-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1: 35729 RPM

Interestingly enough, the fan just kicked on at +54.0 C bring the temp down to +49C (as per sensors).

Am I worried about nothing here?

49 sounds good to me!
but, don’t stop your exploration…you may be on a new trail…

and, as you learn remember to shove some good info into our hardware
compatibility list, see http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Hardware

in fact, there may be info already there about your hardware!
