failsave only

I am still a novice, and installed 11.4 32 bit on an older computer. When I boot I get a “no signal” message because of an probably non supported on board video card.
When I boot in “failsave” all starts up perfectly with a high resolution and no further problems.
How can I start up the normal way?
thank you

What video device do you have?

Have you tried adding ‘nomodeset’ to the boot
Like this image shows: File:Nomodeset-example.jpg - openSUSE

the video is ATI RS300 5834 onboard an ASUS book type
I have nothing added to the boot, I wouldnot know how.

Boot in Failsafe
Open a terminal and enter

/sbin/lspci -nnk

post result here

the nomodeset option didnot give the wanted result.
hereś the info :

OK
So this applies to you
SDB:Radeon - openSUSE

Also check this

Radeon is what applies to you

I checked out the links, but it is complicated stuff .
Running in failsave, I do get the gears running. Only remark is that rendering is off.
I do not see a further solution on how to start without failsave. I do.nt want to screw up cause iI have a nice 1280*1024 screenresolution.
what should I do?

Try adding ‘nomodeset’ to the default boot

Simply press to move to failsafe and then back to the default and start typing

nomodeset

then hit enter

I tried, but always the same. after the splash screen and halfway the progress bar, screen goes black and says no signal
any other ideas? please?

Maybe this holds the solution?
When I go to failsafe the boot options are:
boot options = off processor,max_cstate = 1 nomodeset x11 failsafe vga = ox31a

Hence the suggestion to try nomodeset

I did, but keep getting “no signal”

I start computer, when start options show, I go with arrow down to failsafe, then arrow up to regularboot, then type “nomodeset” , enter.
I get next screen , green KDE with progress bar and when bar is halfway, screen goes black and shows “no signal”

So if failsafe is working
Is it lacking in some way that you can’t use it?

No, it works beautiful. itś only when starting and you forget to switch to failsafe you have to start again.

Yast > System > Boot Loader

Highlight the failsafe
Hit the set default button and OK it
SUSE Paste

That works. Thank you for your patience .and help.
