factory kde live cd's do not install

I have tried a number of the factory kde live cd’s over january and all have all failed to install.

The install gets to the end of this section and then locks:

does that surprise you? i mean, there has been no announcement that
Milestone 1 is released, has there? (and, you should not expect an
installable iso until then, at least.)

You can find all of the openSUSE 12.1 ISO images here: Index of /pub/opensuse/distribution/12.1/iso

I suggest you stick with just one version such as http://download.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/12.1/iso/openSUSE-12.1-KDE-LiveCD-x86_64.iso which is the KDE 12.1 64 bit version. You can even get a script that can download any version from here, intended to make a LiveUSB, but the images can also be burned to a CD.

Often, users find they must add in the kernel load option nomodeset to get the installation to work. I suggest you tell us a lot more about your hardware and your video in particular.

Thank You,

I downloaded Build 0093 of the KDE Live CD, and it does not boot in live mode.
I’m not surprised it would not install.

I suggest that you monitor http://openqa.opensuse.org/cgi-bin/currentresults and
wait until more than 1 test passes.

Thanks for the postings.

I was just curious. i have been using 12.2 since December (installed from a factory live kde) and updated through the factory repos throughout January. All been very stable so far - especially so as we are so early in the eventual release programme for 12.2.

I guess the general consensus from other reply’s is you can’t complain about having a problem with openSUSE 12.2 just yet or that perhaps you did not realize that factory was so early in the release cycle. However, it seems that you are doing just fine but that problems must be expected. I found a nice desktop background here if you want to get it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1363018/WallpaperAnditosan.zip and it was listed on this page: Planet openSUSE (en) with a single example here:

It seems real nice to me, but I have not tried openSUSE 12.2 myself just yet and don’t know what artwork they are using.

Thank You,

Thanks for the wallpaper - I like that - it looks good.

I was testing 12.1 through the milestone and rc releases - so although it is still quite a new release it seems quite old to me. 12.2 is working absolutely fine so far - kernel 3.2, glibc 2.5 and libqt 4.8. As you quite rightly point out there will be problems ahead but I make daily snapshots (and save a copy of every rpm that I use to a separate drive), so when the waters get choppy I will just roll back a day.

My experience with new openSUSE releases is that things generally work at the
start, then as more and more new stuff gets added, the number of problems
increase. For me, anything before MS4 or 5 is only used with sandbox VMs. After
that, they get installed on real hardware and go into production.

Yep they work fine until the rc’s then problems start.
tje net installs are failing too but there are some files not in the download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss tree most notably INDEX.gz
