Face Detection in Linux

Dear all,
Last week, for an experiment, I was taking some photos from the city downtown.
I would like to publish these picture publicly and thus I want to fade out people face’s and anything else that can be considered as personal.

For that it would be great if I can use any software that does face recognition and can apply some filters on the pictures.

Do you know any application that can do that?

There’s a couple hits on Google for “face detection linux” (as search
terms), including a library - not sure if any apps incorporate it or not,
but that would be a good starting point.

digikam2 does face recognition, but only to tag persons; not to apply
filters or editing to the face region.
