External usb sound card! Do you know any?

Hello! I need an external usb sound card which is compatible with linux (opensuse 11.2). I would like to use it to connect my old 3.5 jack speakers and microphone.

Do you have one that is able to play sound and record your voice (skype phone calls).

I have a Logitech Notebook Extreme. It’s an USB sound card meant for the headset that comes with it, but I’ve used my speakerset on it as well. It works with the snd-usb-audio kernel module.

You’ll find lots of generic USB sound dongles for sale. Those work as usb-audio devices. Alternatively, if this is only for Skype, you can even get USB Skype handsets that are usb-audio devices, saving you chaining two devices, if you don’t mind using a handset as opposed to a headset. Phone buttons are not likely to be supported though.

The first (;)) review says it works out of the box on Ubuntu 9.10. Since openSUSE uses a newer kernel and alsa, it will work.

Thanks. Just to confirm that I bought this external card and works fine in my opensuse 11.2 for skype voice calls.
