Extended desktop won't work Nvidia-gfxG05 driver

As far as I can tell I have the latest drivers and kernel installed on a new 15.6 install. I cannot select an extended desktop as it either moves sideways half a screen and locks or it completely locks up when I try to start using it. Duplicate screens work fine and graphics display is as expected, good definition etc.
I note from other messages mismatched drivers with kernel versions appears to be an issue. Here are some outputs, kernel just updated tonight.

Does this occur when trying to adjust via System Settings > Display and Monitor?

If I go through the system settings I only have one screen identified so I can’t set the display configuration as I want. I also have the NVidia settings app there as well. It see’s two displays but the settings can’t be saved as it won’t allow the .conf file to be saved.

Out of interest - have you tried Plasma Wayland and does it behave the same?

Did you try to move the display symboö in Plasma systemsettings? It is possible that they lay on each other.
Left click and hold->move

I thought the same as it has those two smaller icons that look like two monitors. I couldn’t get more than one to appear. One moves about but if there is another there it never appears.

How do I do that? Never heard of Wayland

You can choose the desired session at the SDDM login screen.

That did not go well! Incredibly slow to load then near 95% load on CPU and unusable interface. However I did get two screens with taskbar on one only. Couldn’t get the mouse to appear on the second screen but the layout was what i would expect from an extended desktop

If you were to create a new user (while in a Plasma X11 session), then log out and login as the new user (choosing Plasma Wayland), is that any better? Just wondering if the the performance you encountered was due to any desktop customization such as themes etc.

I’m also going to recommend that you consider using Plasma 6 (with Leap 15.6). Many significant improvements have been made since Plasma 5.27.

I have not changed anything. Its vanilla, no themes or customisations. I’ll see about Plasma 6

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

After the latest update, my dual screen also failed. I had to install Nvidia Settings, and in there I can configure the expand configuration, but when I want to save to etc/X11/xorg.conf I get an error that is unable to open xorg.conf.
Also, the system went to a lot more slower.
I’m using Tumbleweed!

What is your card? It looks like a driver issue but could be a conflict with the latest updates as well. I am parking 15.6 until I can figure out how to proceed.

That results in an unusable system. Just get a white rectangle across half the screen with the rest blank and you cannot do anything with it.

Not sure what to do next. Back 15.5 by the looks for now.

Can you make it to the login screen at least?

No. That is what it looks like. Seems to be a lost cause. Its a very old card now but I thought it should all still work given 15.5 has been relatively trouble free in the graphics area. I am looking at another machine to run 15.6 on. Just a bit concerned that NVidia is problematic

I have a RTX 3070.

To the OP, with the nvidia-settings, open it as root and try saving the config in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d if you want to try saving the xorg.conf.
