i don’t know how well known this is, but i was pleasantly surprised when i
could easily recover a few files that i had accidentally deleted (rm -f).
i thought this was difficult on ext4 file systems, but a little googling
brought me to this package, which is available in the security project
(http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/security/openSUSE_12.1/ ).
i didn’t even unmount the affected filesystem immediately, but it’s in a
corner where nothing happens normally, so things weren’t too much
disturbed. unmounting and running ext4magic -r -f /dev/sd[n]/<dir-name>
brought back pretty much all deleted files that had been deleted (rm) from
the last one or two days, without any further hassle. (saved into
/root/RECOVERDIR/ by default.)
just wanted to let you know, in case you didn’t.

Best regards,
Greg
Thanks. I’ll bookmark this for future reference, should I be unfortunate enough to ever require it
Phani,
Thanks I installed it this looks to me like one of those things to have & not need rather than need & not have.
