on my laptop dell latitude E6510 with opensuse 12.3 kernel 3.7.10-1.16-desktop and kde 4.8.5
the manhattan superspeed usb expresscard 3/4
MANHATTAN 100955392 - Express Card - ePrice
sorry me and google hasn’t been able to find a result in english…
don’t works, I inserted it, then attached a working usb disk, nothing is shown in dolphin or in available devices.
reading around I didn’t solve, but found that could be useful a lspci command, this is the lspci output I suppose can be related to card:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (rev 35)
04:00.0 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd CardBus bridge (rev 02)
04:00.1 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd MMC/SD Host Controller (rev 03)

06:00.0 USB controller: NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host Controller (rev 04)
have you suggestion to have my usb3.0 expresscard working??
manythanks, ciao Pier

Hi
You need to provide a bit more with lspci, eg on my HP ProBook 4430s I see;
lspci -nnk
26:00.0 USB controller [0c03]: NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host Controller [1033:0194] (rev 04)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:167e]
Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd
Kernel modules: xhci-hcd
So if you probe the module, does it work?
modprobe xhci-hcd

Hi
So it is visible? Or is it something else. I am guessing the express
card slot is enabled in the system BIOS?

I have seen bug reports for similar behaviour, but they apply to older kernels. However, maybe this is due to some kind of regression that needs reporting. When you plug inthe USB HDD, what is reported by the kernel?
sudo tail -f /var/log/messages

nothig I think…
I did sudo tail -f /var/log/messages and then inserted the expresscard, and then the USB HDD, and nothing changed

Have you tried explicitly unloading and reloading the kernel driver:
modprobe -r xhci_hcd
modprobe xhci_hcd
I’ve had luck with this on other distros (RHEL). Despite showing in lspic, the USB3 card would not work until I did the above.

no luck for me,…:(, tried
suse-tumbleweed:/home/pla # modprobe -r xhci_hcd
suse-tumbleweed:/home/pla # modprobe xhci_hcd

but nothing happens…

What does
dmesg | tail
show, immediately after inserting?
I suspect nothing of interest…
before insert expresscard:
