Export to MS Office 2000 creat huge documents

To be able to share information with other that are stuck with MS product I must export some docs to those formats.

I have a document of 1M odf format, when I save it to Office 2000 format it grows to 20Mb…

I am running 11.2, KDE 4.3.1, repositories are as follow, and I have switched all system packages to the comunity repository of OOo (v3.1.1)

On my laptop that stil runs 11.1, I make the same thing and documents stil grow, but from 1M to 1.1M…

Anybody has an idea of what is happening here ?

odt is a compressed format and so will always be smaller than any MS format other than .docx which is also a compressed format.

I tend to find MS text files are anything from 50-100% larger but, if there are any graphics in them, even quite small files can become very large. I have a friend who frequently sends me very short MS files with graphics in them that are 4-5Mb in size.

The other possible cause is embedded files which can make an MS file much larger than the equivalent odt file.

However, 1Mb to 20Mb is a greater degree of expansion than I have ever encountered.
