The subject has MS5 ++ in it because I am now running with the latest Factory.
To get there, I did the following:
-
Using YaST => Software Repositories, I disabled all existing repos. and added
a new one for “Factory oss” and another for “Factory non-oss” These have URLs
that are similar to the existing “oss” and “non-oss” except for changing
“distribution/12.1” to “factory”. -
Update the system with “sudo zypper up”. You must use zypper as YaST does not
understand that it can update from factory. This step will update 1200 or more
packages. -
Reboot.
After doing these steps, my systems improved a lot.
Booting with systemd now works in most cases - before, I had numerous difficulties.
The plasmoid networkmanager now works. It still asks for the root password more
often that it should, but there has been considerable improvement, and I no
longer need to switch to the nm-applet.
With these changes, my expectations for the 12.1 GM are much higher than before.
