Experience using a Lenovo IdeaPad G555?

Hi:

I’m looking into buying a new Laptop. I have put my eyes on a Lenovo IdeaPad G555. I’d like to install OpenSuse 11.3 (Or any previous version) on it, since this is my favourite OS, but I’d like to know if it will work ok before I actually buy the computer. Does anybody know about things I should be careful given this configuration? Thanks!

Hi, according to ThinkWiki, my ThinkPad SL510 (approx 8 months old) has IdeaPad firmware. Not exactly what you are looking for, but I can tell you that it runs very well on 11.3 (64bit), with 3GB and a C2D T6670 @ 2.2GHz. That’s more memory and power than is needed for a good 11.3 experience. The only real problem is with the occasional lockup and Flash full-screen fails, but there is bug report(s) against the intel driver for those and a fix anticipated.

I did search ThinkWiki for IdeaPAd G555, but nothing came up.

If you haven’t already, you could check out the lenovo communitywebsite.

A google search suggests Fedora and Ubuntu users have their Linux distro’s running on this laptop.

You may need to install with the boot code “nomodeset”.
