Everything suddenly turned blue in You Tube and other sites-- don't know where to post this question

Hello, everyone. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this inquiry but I just have no idea where to look for help with a very bizarre video problem that seems to affect flash video on some websites but not others.

Suddenly yesterday everything has turned an intense blue when viewing videos (flash) on Youtube.com or cnn.com. Caucasian faces are blue. Black faces are blue. Anything that is (should be) yellow is now a shade of green. Anything red is now a shade of purple.

However, videos (also flash, I presume) on cbs.com and nbc.com look normal.

I do not have the “blue” problem when viewing youtube or cnn.com video clips stored on my computer. That is, if I download one of these “blue” video clips from You Tube or cnn.com and then play it using Kaffeine or KMplayer it looks fine – normal colors. It’s only when I click on the YouTube or cnn.com video while in a browser does it look strange. Same thing happens using either Firefox or Chrome.

So… what the heck is going on, and where do I even start trying to fix the color mess?

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Are you running Linux?

Yes, sorry.

SuSE 11.4 64 bit, updated as best I can tell.
Firefox v 11.0 for Open SuSE.
Chromium v 19.0.1066.0 (svn126066).
Flash Video v 11.2.202.228
nspluginwrapper 1.4.4.0.15-0.3.1-x86_64 (if it makes any difference)

Is there a way to attach a screen shot (.png) here so you could see what I’m seeing?

Thx

Are you running Linux?

I guess from these references the OP is running Linux

…and then play it using Kaffeine or KMplayer it looks

@scoref: Can you tell us a little more info about the version of openSUSE you’re using? Did this happen after an update? Which flash packages do you have installed?

rpm -qa |grep flash

There may be more questions.

Edit: Forget the above. I see you’ve supplied most of this info now

By chance, do you have nvidia graphics?

I like that.
To the op you are not alone, mine even had a choppy sound, I had to open pavucontrol to eradicate the choppiness.
Anyway, I went back to flash 11.1, I can’t stand it. Like the title of one of the flash problem. It sucks!

nvidia-computeG02 v 290.10-13.1-x86_64
nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop v 290.10_k2.6.37.1_1.2-12.1-x86_64
x11-video-nvidiaG02 v 290.10-13.1-x86_64
xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau v 0.0.16_20110115_b795ca6-3.1-x86_64

Anything else I can provide?
Is there a way to attach a screen shot? Or is my description of blue people sufficient?

You may want to roll back flash like Carl suggests in this thread:

http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/473983-flash-player-bbciplayer-nvidia-crash.html

Not sure if this is the proper way to report output of the konsole. Please forgive me if I’ve done it wrong.

gil@linux-1lgo:~> rpm -qa |grep flash
flash-player-11.2.202.228-6.1.x86_64
flash-player-kde4-11.2.202.228-6.1.x86_64
pullin-flash-player-11.4.1-0.3.1.x86_64
gil@linux-1lgo:~>

Thx

Its ok for small output, but much easier to read when code tags are used: [tag]your output[/tag], where tag=CODE

Anyway, have a read of that thread I linked to. Good luck.

Yes, that worked! Many thanks everyone for this amazingly simple fix.
I never realized that flash v 11.2 had so many inter-related problems.

I now have only one flash package installed: 11.1.102.63-0.2.1-x86_64

  1. Should I add any other flash-associated packages?
  2. Should I set flash to “protected – do not modify?”

Again, thanks!

Thanks! That fixed it. I did not realize that flash v 11.2 had so many inter-related problems. I now have just one flash package installed: 11.1.102.63-0.2.1-x86_64 1) Should I install any other flash packages or leave well enough alone? 2) Should I mark this version of flash “protected, do not modify?” Again, thanks! socref

  1. Should I set flash to “protected – do not modify?”

Yes, I’d do that for now.

Thanks. I’ll do that.

Is there a way for me to mark the thread title as “SOLVED.”

I have seen this reported at other sites. In my case, I did notice a bluish cast, but not all that bad.

The solution, which worked for me: When next playing a flash video, right click on the video. This brings up a flash options box. Select settings. There should be a setting for “enable hardware acceleration” (or similar wording). Uncheck that box, and the blue problem should go away.

Yes, I’ve read similar too. For example:

You’ve been watching too many Intel adverts! Or Avatar reruns.
