Error when I Login at Startup

Hi!

I recently installed the last version of OpenSuse: 12.1. When I start it for the first time, I can’t log in.

When I type my Username and Password, the screen become black, and later, it shows the login screen again. If I type a wrong Username / Password, it just says “Wrong Password”.

I only can Login with the Root user.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

It would help if you tell us if this is kde or gnome

It’s KDE.

Thanks!

There’s a known kdm bug, that on the first login attempt it loses a character from the password you type.

The workaround is to type slowly. It apparently loses the second password character if you are typing too fast.

I can’t tell whether that is your problem. It sounds as if you might have more than one problem.

Hmm! Another problem - the numlock setting may not be what you expect on startup. If there are numeric digits in your password, use the regular keys rather than the keypad for those.

Apart from the bug mentioned. Which it doesn’t sound like to me,
It could be effects is enabled
Can you boot to your user account from the Failsafe boot option?
(You should not be logging in as root either) (That’s graveyard activity)

If you get in with failsafe
Go to system settings > Desktop effects and make sure they are OFF

It’s doesn’t work. I can’t get in with failsafe either :frowning:
