Any ideas?

Please quit the updater applet in the systray
Open a terminal and become su, and do
zypper up
It says,
“oot privileges are required for updating packages.”
You were saying about becoming su. How do I do that?
Thanks. It works.
All I had to type was “SU” :shame:
No worries.
Let us know if we can help further.
Thanks so much caf,
When I did the zypper command it downloaded about 200+ files. Worked.
As of now I am still not able to download programs such as flash and vlc. When I try there is a screen that says it’s updating and it just disappears, it’s not even in the taskbar.
Also, likely related, I get update alerts from my applet and when I go to select them they just disappear.
On a good note, I am able to hear sound, which is great because other distros have not been able to do this for me.
Thanx
The updater applet in the panel
If you right click and configure you can choose not to start at boot
Then quit the applet and if it asks about starting at boot, say no.
Now reboot.
Now open Yast, software management
In here you can search for what you want to install and tick the box next to the application
Accept, to install what you selected
You can run updates easily from Yast Software Updates
or from a su terminal do zypper up or you
