Error is seen under “Jobs” in CUPS when sending a print job from Okular. I don’t know much about CUPS. Just started happening this morning and I can’t print to either network printer. I have rebooted SUSE 11.4. Both printers will print a test page from CUPS.
Seems to be ONLY the printing from Okular that is affected and I get the error. Could it be the .pdf file is bad? It is from the bank and I’ve printed them many times before (my bank statement). Thanks if you can suggest where I might poke?

Thanks. I got it printed with GIMP by doing a screen capture of Okular, both pages I needed so the panic is off. Yes, there are many alternate ways to do things in SUSE!

not just in openSUSE (just “SUSE” is a different animal), but in Linux
in general…
sorry, i don’t really have any idea why you get the error you do with
CUPS (i’ve never been very lucky with it)…
sometimes so many different way are available it is dizzying…but,
instead of confusion i call it FREEDOM (to use the way that works best
for you!)

This time I printed the pdf with GIMP. This is more trouble than if I was just able to print it from Okular but again this month, the pdf I get from the bank gives me the error in the post title. Any Okular experts out there? Thanks

“There are sveral other PDF viewers you can use”. I think that’s not the good solution. I have the same problem. And many other users have. Only Okular refuses to print. (OpenSUSE 11.4/KDE 4.6.0). All other apps print fine. I just expect Okular being able to print. So how to solve this problem with Okular?

Well, report in bugzilla. If you are several people, all of you must add
your info to the same bug. If only one reports, it is useless. And saying
it here is useless, we are just users like you. If one app does not work,
use another.

I’m having this problem again. If I try to print a PDF with okular cups stops with the message:
/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed
Anyway else having this problem?
It was working just recently, but now all of sudden it stopped. Must be a recent update that’s causing this…
I can print with libreoffice just fine.
Check /var/log/cups/error_log for hints as to why Okular is bugging out when printing. Or rather why cups is.
A little more info: it seems it’s the document that’s causing the problem. I tried with another PDF and it printed.

@ccin1492: It is not a good idea to tack on to an old thread like this. Start a new thread with title describing your problem. That way your more likely to catch the attention of others who can help. BTW, you haven’t told us vital information about your system: openSUSE version and HPCUPS version would be useful.

Yes, I forgot that info. The opensuse version is 13.2 and hpcups is 3.14.6-2.2.4.
Hi, so it seems that there’s something wrong with your pdf file. You could try : opening the pdf from within libreoffice writer and print from there, or install cups-pdf and try to print to that and then print the generated file. Sometimes it works. HTH Lenwolf.
Correct. I was able to open it in libreoffice and print from there.
