Error on install - system hangs after "shutting down name service cache daemon"

Hi,

Have installed 12.1 x64 with Gnome on my Dell XPS M1330 and all seems to go well, however after being asked for permission to reboot, the system seems to hang after “Shutting down Name Service Cache Daemon” (which has a green “Done”) next to it.

Anyone else had this issue and know what I could do about it - I’ve left the PC as is for a moment and would love to know how to proceed - cold reboot, or is there something else I could do?

Cheers all.

I am seeing this problem as well. I’m installing 12.1 x64 by DVD. I did a media check and everything came up OK.

Hello all,

having the same problem with 12.1 i586 dvd on a hp mini. Anyone could help with this please. I tried to install in textmode and had the same problem.

Greetings

I did a hard re-boot and it told me the previous installation had failed - it did a few things and then I was presented with my openSuse login screen and the installation actually seems to have completed ok. Am now logged in and posting using Chromium. Try holding the power switch for a couple of seconds and see how it goes!

Ah you are a lucky one. Im installing for 2 days now and nothing…on my mac with a virtual box no problem. :frowning:

Same issue on Lenovo Thinkpad X201i (KDE x86 installed two times from usb stick).

In the grub boot screen there is a little menu at the bottom. I think it is
F5 that lets you choose systemd or initv - choose the second.

The DVD version didn’t work but the Live CD version did (installed and ran fine). For both I used the official tool for creating bootable USB stick.

Same problem with Dell latitude E6400.

initv trick solved it

can you explain?

just for records and further help, you can use suse studio and install sysvinit-init package (it will uninstall systemd-sysvinit package) on 12.1

If your got the infrrmation and hold on the screen, you can try to do that take off lan line and install again.I use the way to sloved the question.
