Error message on Booting

Running 11.3 64 bit updated to kde 4.5.4

I noticed when booting yesterday the following error message is shown:-

17.688956] end_request: I/O error, dev sr1, sector 4294180608

Computer still starts OK - is it a software or hard drive error?

Many thanks

What is sr1 ?

lsscsi

Hi,

This is usually a cd drive or something similar… Maybe a problem there.

Thanks very much for posting.

I ran lsscsi and dev/sr1 is just a dvd rom. The error message shows when I boot with a CD in that drive but is clear when there is no cd. It seems to be the drive rather than a particular CD.

Was having a bit of a panic as I thought the error messages were a pointer to a failing hard drive (i do keep back-ups but the thought of reinstalling all my data OMG). The dvd rom is a few years old now and much easier to replace.

Thanks again
