Well I changed the drives to /dev/sr0 in SMPlayer and got the DVD to launch. There is playback but no root menu is accessible and the DVD is playing “titles” out of sequence. This is some positive progress at least.
/dev/sr0
is normal for dvd devices
I have 2 players and so have sr0 and sr1
You might try changing the dvd part here

VLC will give you better menu options

Kmplayer configured to /dev/sr0 then DVD, DVD Navagator, Start and the root menu opened. Seems to play as it should I will try VLC next but I am not sure the GUI for VLC is installed. No its not installed in fact most of vlc is missing. I got audio playback though. the vlc repo is disabled as per the mulitmedia setup instructions.

I had to go in and install "vlc’ from the Packman repository. All the other packages were installed.
Playing a random DVD now. It dafaulted to /dev/sr0. I didn’t have to point it to the right location.
Now I don’t know where to start to get Kaffeine back to a working version.
DVDs work, caf4926Anime fansubs play in SMPlayer and KMPlayer. MP3s play with Audacious2.
Time for some Tea and a shower.
