Error during shutdown

After a long stint with openSUSE-10.3 and debian-5.0.3
I recently installed openSUSE-11.2 from
openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso with kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1-default.
While shutting down I am getting the message
.
.
.
shutting down SSH done
shutting down auditd done

Then the machine is not proceeding any further.
I have no other way but to force shut.
This did not occur in openSUSE-10.3 (nor in debian-5.0.3).
Please advise me how to correct it.

Try booting in failsafe from the boot menu
Does it do any different now?
