Here we go again. I must not have enough to do. Suse once again dares me to try to make it work and once again I attempt to crack the nut.
I installed a fresh copy of suse 11 gnome on my asus pundit. That went ok. It looks nice, runs good. However, my epson stylus 1200 printer does not print. My epson perfection 2450 scanner does not scan. My built in sound card produces sound but I can’t figure out how to control it, ie control the various inputs and outputs that should be there. And of course the computer itself will not hibernate. On the plus side I can upload pictures from my digital camera better than in windows. but all of the other stuff worked practically without intervention in windows, why not here?
Let’s start with the printer. I go to control center | printing and I see my printer in there and it says it has one job in it (from a test page I tried to print). But the printer isn’t printing it (yes it’s plugged in and turned on). I go to yast and I see the printer configured there connected as usb://epson/stylus photo 1200 with spool stylusphoto1200. So what do I do to troubleshoot this? Why is this so hard?
says the gutenprint printer driver should be the thing for you; I am not sure if that is loaded within the default drivers of your OpenSuse 11.0; I see gutenprint is already loaded in our 11.0
if you open YaST; it will ask you for your root password; if you click on software management; and then click on the installed button, and then type guten or so into the lefthand filters window, it will tell you if gutenprint is already installed;
if already installed: good; if not, click on the available button, and install;
then, what about you open Firefox/ type http://localhost631/ into the top line; that opens local information on your own computer, so you are not breaching security by doing this
click on manage printers; and for example for us it lists the printers on our system;
the list goes:
description: Samsung (default)
location:
printer driver: Samsung … Foomatic/gdi (recommended)
Printer State: idle
Device URI: usb//Samsung …
2Stumped
it seems you have good hardware that comportable with linux…
(of course if it working proparly)
so you should use gutenprint drivers for your printer…
as sayes before, also i could add that you find some modern it is released 5.2 rc1 and in repositories i found 5.1.4
also you could check the drivers for your printer at ƒAƒ”ƒ@ƒVƒX [AVASYS CORPORATION]](http://www.avasys.jp)
as for scanner
i open yast and just check epson perfection 2450 you have both sane and iscan drivers with full functionality. so you have chois, i preffer iscan
it pretty good looking easy settings and well working…
i have perfection v200…
