Epson printer will not align colours with OpenSuse 12.3

I’m new to OpenSuse (12.3), having recently installed it to replace Debian 6. My existing printer (an SX425W wireless printer which connects to my router as a network device) has not been changed or tinkered with. I have installed in OpenSuse the official Epson drivers for this printer.

However when I print a document or test page, the colours are no longer correctly superimposed on the page - they are all misaligned by about 2mm vertically (yellow is 2mm ‘north’ of magenta, which in turn is 2mm ‘north’ of cyan. Black and cyan are correctly superimposed). Can anyone suggest what might be causing this, and how I might rectify it? I don’t think the ‘network/wireless’ arrangement is an issue - what has changed is the OS and drivers. Previously with Debian I had no problem.

The device url is lpd://192.168.0.100:515/PASSTHRU. Ink Type is set up as ‘Standard’. Changing the printer setup (Print Settings>select printer>Properties) to ‘Four colour standard’ makes no difference.

The printer is an ‘all in one printer/scanner/copier’ device and if I ‘photocopy’ a document with it, the printout is perfect, so this does not appear to be a problem with the printer itself.

Can anyone help?

TIA

I know that the windows drivers have a maintenance function where you can perform printhead alignment, but I’m not sure whether such a maintenance utility exists for Linux. Since you’re using proprietary drivers, you’ll need to contact Epson for support I would think.

FWIW, I did find this thread concerning similar model (will be same Epson drivers) with a quick search

This does lead me to wonder if you really are using the proprietary drivers. What PPD is present in /etc/cups/ppd/ directory?

Sorry, I was being a silly billy. I had installed the Epson proprietary scanner drivers and the scanner works fine, but previously when I had ‘added’ the printer I had used the default drivers. Once I had retrieved the official Epson drivers and re-installed the printer using them, the problem was resolved.

Now that I have actually installed the proprietary drivers (!), it is Epson-Stylus-SX420W.ppd, and all is well.

As I had thought  Glad you got it working.
