I’m posting this for the benefit of future searchers.
I purchased an Epson Perfection V550 photo scanner and have been able to get it working successfully with Leap 42.3.
Epson provides a Linux driver download from their website. The version I used was 1.01. There is an install.sh script included but I found that it failed because it automatically chooses the “abort” option when OpenSuse warns that it can’t identify the digital signature. Manually installing the RPM files with Zypper works, however.
I found that I needed to install the RPM from the Data folder first, then from the Plugin folder and finally install the 3rd RPM from the Core folder to avoid dependency errors.
I used the YAST Scanner control panel to set up the scanner.
The Epson iScan software works, as do the other common Linux scan applications that I tried.
For anyone looking for a Linux compatible photo scanner - particularly one with film & slide scanning abilities - the Epson V550 works well.
