I have two SSDs in my laptop (512GB and 1TB), and I’ve installed openSUSE Tumbleweed using LVM with full disk encryption on both drives.
The issue is: during boot, I have to enter the disk password twice before reaching the boot menu or GRUB screen. As shown in the picture, it prompts me for the password two times in a row.
Is there a way to enter the disk password only once during boot?
I don’t recall there being any way to do this, unfortunately.
If it’s still early enough for a reinstall: what I’d do currently is to create a single LV spanning both disks, then encrypt the LV instead of the PV. Then, you’ll only have to enter your password once.
As arvidjarr said though, both LUKS and LVM add moving parts, and will make things more complicated if you need to fix problems. Best stick to the defaults until you are comfy with the system.
