encoding from 10.3 to 11.4

Hi,

I’m running on my maching opensuse 10.3 and opensuse 11.4 beta.
When using the latter, I cannot see correctly the file names and folder names where an accented letter was used in 10.3.
I understood that both system use by default UTF-8. Correct?
What’s the easiest way to have consistent names on the two systems?
Restart 10.3 and convert the encoding to UTF-8?

I understood what it was.
Even if 10.3 is supposed to use UTF-8, it wasn’t.
I went to Yast -> System -> Languages -> Details and checked UTF-8.
Then I launched a script that translated files and dirs names into UTF-8.
