Empathy - audio video grayed out

Hi. I’m trying to set up Empathy for video chatting using Google Talk. But when I right click on my contact, “Audio Call” and “Video Call” are grayed out. I guess I’m missing something. For the record, video calls work find with Skype, and I can video call using Google Talk through the browser. How to debug?

Suse 11.4
KDE 4.8.5

you may need to take a look at this guide. It might be codec issue. https://live.gnome.org/Empathy/FAQ#Audio_and_Video_calls

Hi. Thanks for that. Didn’t help, though. :frowning:

In situations like these I usually just go through the process of building from source - resolving all the build dependencies usually sorts things out. In this case, I think I’m screwed. Building empathy requires egg-list-box, which I can’t find packaged for suse 11.4 anywhere. An attempt to build that from source complained about my versions of GTK+3 and GLib. As I’m not inclined to really screw around with upgrading gnome (I don’t use it), and I’m avoiding upgrading the whole system (waiting to purchase a new laptop), I think I’m stuck.

Just as an added piece of information, I’ve also noticed that the same options are grayed out in pidgin.

you might as well give the one click a shot http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/openSUSE:11.4:Update/standard/empathy.ymp?base=openSUSE%3A11.4&query=empathy
