is there a good, low resources app that sits in the KDE system tray whose sole purpose is to check email accounts and notify you if there is mail waiting to be downloaded and read? Preferably something in the OS or packman repos.

kshowmail did that, but it is for kde 3.

yeah, there were a few for KDE3. kbiff is another that is actually in the opensuse repos but drags in kde3 and qt3 dependencies.I’d much prefer something kde4 native.
I guess this kind of app is not so common now as most people are using browser plug-ins to achieve this.
Thunderbird and Kmail have this facility but as far as I’m aware it requires you to have the client up and running - and in Thunderbirds case - maximised.

I use the “MinimizedToTray revived” plugin in TB, so TB sits invisible
(just an icon in the tray) there and the email notifications popup in
the notification area.

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of that addon. I’ll give it a try.
I did find a kde plasmoid plasmaMailChecker but I just can’t get it to work with yahoo mail. I keep getting an error message about authentication failure.
