Emacs: »unable to start the Emacs server«

Without any change by me™, an existing and working setup stopped working.

I set up systemd to start an Emacs server at log in, described here:

https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/544564-Enabeling-emacs-service-gt-quot-ERROR-Display-0-can%E2%80%99t-be-opened-quot

And now, all of a sudden, it no longer works. If I start Emacs on cli, it gets a new PID and the Emacs window says:

Warning (server): Unable to start the Emacs server.
There is an existing Emacs server, named "server".
To start the server in this Emacs process, stop the existing
server or call ‘M-x server-force-delete’ to forcibly disconnect it.

I tried everything I could think of, including disabling and re- enabling the service and so on, no avail. Running out of ideas.

TW, up to date. I replaced the emacs version of TW with the version of the editor repo, but that didn’t help neither.

Alexander

and the reason is…

wayland.

In a plasma session (x11), no problem.

In a wayland session, doesn’t work.
