Hi,
would it not be a good idea, and saving time for those browsing around to help others, to allow users to change the title of their threads? That way a user could change the title to:
“[SOLVED] - original title of thread”
to indicate that the question at hand has been answered to satisfaction.
This way other users could see if a problem they have has been solved and those knowing the answer need not click it open anymore once it has been solved.

perhaps not change the title, but get the original thread starter to be able to mark the thread as solved, so it would appear in a different font colour or something so users know not to bother with it? ability to change the title could do some damage, they could change the meanings of all of the posts below it. but this is a good idea.
yes, the option to mark it as solved would be even better. I do not know the application used to host these forums but if it is in there that would be the best way to go. On other fora I frequent this however was not possible in the forum software so it was agreed upon to change the title to [SOLVED] to suggest just that.

I also think it should be visible if a post has been edited by a remark like: “last edited by ${USERNAME} on ${DATE} because ${REASON}”
so people know if the OP changed his post. twice I have found myself replying to a post that was edited afterwards.

yes this is a very good idea , maybe for certain problems importing them into the wiki for know issues / solved

Also another idea would be multi quoting posts button … this could be useful when answering more than one post in a thread

This is just my opinion, and while it sounds good in theory it never
really works in practice. A lot of members won’t even state in the
thread that they got things working so what will make them come back and
mark a thread as solved. On top of that, the only really way to mark a
thread as solved is to edit the title which will break threading in
NNTP. Lastly, many threads have multiple questions in the thread so when
should it be marked as solved? Otherwise, thank you for the idea and the
staff will discuss the idea.
By marking an item as solved it not only lets the people know that it has been solved but it also prevents others from posting, post solved, and asking follow-up questions. When they should just start a new thread. “I have the same problem but mine is an ATI what should i do?”
Maybe editing the title isn’t the best idea due to some limitations you didn’t really get into - but perhaps maybe a symbol or icon or font color that will let us know it is solved.
I hate getting into a thread that I, as a young linux professional, may know the answer to and read it all the way through just to find out its solved.
To answer your question on weather it will get marked solved or not is up to the moderator at hand to do that. In most threads there is a moderator that is there not only reading, but participating in the thread…
It makes too much sense not to.

But it is actually the original posters responsibility to tell a staff
member to flag it as closed. That is where the issue lies, the OP
usually doesn’t come back to let us know.
