In another thread, I asked “which card should I buy?” What card to buy?
Whilst googling around, I thought that one of these might fit the bill:
Edimax EW-7722In - 300Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n 32-bit PCI Adapter
Edimax EW-7612PIn - 300Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI Express Adapter
But, only this one explicitly mentions linux on the website:
Edimax EW-7711In - 150Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n 32-bit PCI Adapter
So I emailed/webmail Edimax from their site and asked thus:
Hi can you tell me which chipsets are on the PCi and PCie cards, EW7722in and EW-7612PIn , and whether they can be made to run on a linux system. My system is recent (Linux home 2.6.37.2-0.6-default kernel) Do they have the same chipset as EW-7711In, which I notice has explicit linux support?thank-you…
Stephen
Now this was on the 3/03/2011, and I had given up getting any kind of useful support, but I got a reply today. I hope they wont mind if I quote them:
The chipset of EW-7722in is RT3062F
The chipset of EW-7612pin is RTL8191SEAttached are the Linux driver and document for each device compiler settings for your reference.
and attached are two tar.gz files and 1 doc and 1 .pdf “how to install xxxxx on linux”
The docs are for Ubunt but still, even with the delay, excellent stuff IMHO.
I am now slightly more inclined to buy kit from these guys, at least they acknowledge that linux exists, kudos to them.
