Easiest way to move SuSE to a new hard drive

Hi,

I have an existing SuSE 11.1 installation which I’d like to move to a new hard drive. I know SuSE uses the “Device by ID” by default now, so I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to move my installation with minimal pain.

Just to make it somewhat more difficult, I have 2 HDs… one is a Vista installation (came with the PC) and the other is my SuSE drive. I need to keep the Vista install, as it seems to be the only way to do BIOS/firmware updates. I’m planning on moving the SuSE drive from a 360GB drive to a 1TB drive.

Any suggestions?

The device-by-id is just a sumlink. So when you do
ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/
you will see all your partitions link to the wll known /dev/sda1 etc.
You could change your fstab so it used the /dev/sd… instead. Then change the disk and the same hardware addresses would be mounted.
