It’s so good that I’m a little annoyed with myself for not getting to it sooner. And I sure don’t want to hear “I told you so!” from all the Linux mavens.
To quote the mailing list on earlier thing ;“Why is this Ubuntu?”
If I had to guess, I would have speculated he would have hated Linux … but maybe that is to come after he spends more time and learns some of the Linux limitations that Ubuntu shares (with other distributions) and some that Ubuntu has on its own.
He did take a few swings at MS-Windows in that article. I did note the one quote:
I don’t think Microsoft has ever sent out a patch that improved the performance of the machine. Ever.
Of course in Linux we put out patches that sometimes break the boot … break the graphics break the sound … break the wireless … break the webcam … etc … and then a short time later, create patches that make everything better/faster. …
I do recall, that Windows-3.1 was improved over 3.0, and that 3.1 was faster than 3.0. But then again, 3.1 was a release, and not a patch. Windows-3.1 was the last release I used for any lengthy period of time, as I only used Win-95 for one year, before switching to Red Hat Linux.
Over on Desktop Linux, Kingman writes:
If Dvorak starts using Linux regularly, it likely won’t be long before the opinionated, thick-skinned writer starts cranking out amusing and (probably) deadly accurate criticism holding Linux to a higher standard.
The apparent Linux love-fest may mostly be inspired by his dislike of Windows.
