I have an openSUSE 11.? DVD I got from a magazine, but my laptop does not have a DVD drive. Is there a way to convert the DVD to CD or to copy the DVD to a location on the network and somehow boot/install from there?
Yes, use the network install CD. See here for starting off:
However you don’t have to install from the Internet. If you have another machine you can configure as a NFS, FTP, or HTTP server, you can mount the DVD on that and use that as the install source instead of an Internet repo. Here’s another howto that shows how to set up a local repo on another machine from the DVD. Even though it talks about 10.0 and about multiple CDs, the principles are still valid, just mount 1 DVD only:
Network Installation Source - openSUSE
The problem with the howtos in the wiki is that consolidation and updating is needed as the information is scattered over many pages. (Sorry, not volunteering, not enough time.)
Thanks!
I’ve done Netinstall, but I don’t have the fastest connection (at least it’s DSL) and it is a shame since I have this shiny DVD lying around
