I need a new dvd burner and i’ve got the choice between these only devices:
SONY DRU-190A
LG GH20NS15
Pioneer DVR-215
Pioneer DVR-115
Sony DRU-190A
Asus DRW-2014
ASUS DRW-2014L1T - LightScribe
ASUS DRW-2014 - LightScribe
Samsung SH-S202N - LighScribe
Samsung SH-S223Q - LightScribe
Which are known to work? Please tell me about your experience. Thanks
Pretty much all ATA/SATA DVD writers adhere to the industry MMC standards so it boils down to choosing the one you like.
thanks i know but i’m afraid bout bad surprise !
There are lots of online reviews of DVD drives out there. It isn’t an issue of Linux compatibility, they will all work. You just have to pick one you are happy with.
OK well think i’m gonna sleep without pills tonight. thanks !

Normal use won’t be a problem, but firmware updates are often only
possible from Windows.

And a quick search shows that lightscribe functionality is something you may have to add on yourself, if it hasn’t been integrated into k3b or other burner software yet. The LaCie software for Linux was most often mentioned. I just use marker pens.
I found that I couldn’t burn on 16x DVD on my older burner last night, it simply rejected the media. I suspect I would need a firmware upgrade, but I’m ignoring the problem by burning on a newer machine (that can actually send data at that speed).
