DVD/RW seen as CD ROM and inacessible

Hi,

I use openSUSE 12.2 - milestone 3 because I have an ASRock A75M-HVS motherboard which wants to boot with UEFI.

I have a DVD/RW attached to a SATA-3 connection for installation purposes.

When I look at Applications -> System Tools -> Disks, I see listed:

250 GB Hard Disk
WDC WD2500AAKX-001CA0 (correct)

CD Drive
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS70 (weird)

On the underlying detail page the Model type appears again but no Media (even though a disk was in at the time)and Device is given as:
/dev/sr0 (Read-Only)

dmesg had given the following information:

9.791041] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
9.791052] cdrom: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
9.791503] sr 1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0

Not only is my DVD-RAM seen as CD-ROM but I am unable to access it even to read a CD.

Incidentally I installed the system from an external USB optical drive - that works OK!

I’d be more than happy to supply any extra information and any suggestions would be very welcome…

There is a forum dedicated to 12.2, that is, the current beta version. Your
issue might be specific to it being the beta. Better ask there.

This wiill be mmoved to Pre-Release/Beta. Please NNTP users do not post until moved.

Moved and open to posting.

At @GreenCHameleon.

I see you are new here on the forums: Welcome.

Your thread was moved. We have a special sub-forum for versions to-be-released. The Pre-release and Beta versions are for those who want to test and want to share their experience/problems to the effect that the final release wil be as good as possible. You are welcome to join them. But we want to avoid to mix the discussions about these pre-release milestones and betas wth the problems experienced by people on the supported levels. Thus the separate subforum.

Thanks for the welcome and quick service, Henk. I was just logging in to move it (or rather re-post it) myself…

Perhaps I should say that I’m only using this pre-release because I had read that it supports UEFI booting.
and so assumed that the current stable version does not support UEFI (?).
