We just got an HP ProLiant ML350 server that has a HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH15L drive. We put OpenSUSE 10 on the server and the drive is not detecting. I’ve looked and I can’t figure out where the device files are located so I can mount the drive. YaST also doesn’t have a cdrom device category under hardware either.
I forgot to mention earlier, but under the Hardware Configuration in YaST, I don’t even have a cdrom section like on our other Linux boxes. There is no /dev/sr0 either.
I also have this problem with DVD-RAM.
According to my search, DVD-RAM, by default, is UDF filesystem. So I installed udftools package, but still, openSuse cannot read it.
I don’t know what to do. There is no much information about DVD-RAM on Linux. They say that the compatibility is better after Kernel 2.6, but I’m using openSuse 11.0 and I cannot read it.
I can confirm that there is no problem reading DVD-RAM files with openSUSE 11.1 as I happen to have one made several years ago on a Windows machine and I have put it in; it recognised it immediately and read it perfectly.
Things have changed so much since SUSE 10, I suspect you need to go on Novell’s forums to answer the question about SUSE 10.
