When trying to burn dvd’s with k3b and brasero (iso and video_ts) the burn ends with an error. I installed opensuse 11.0 on july 1st and was able to burn a couple dvd’s but now nothing will burn. I have performed system software updates. I am able to read from dvd’s. any help is appreciated.
thanks

I don’t have other dvd’s to try. I can burn cd’s with k3b and I was able to burn a dvd with imgburn under wine. Maybe an update will fix the problem eventually.
I really enjoy opensuse and I don’t want to leave it, so as long as imgburn is working I should be ok but I would prefer k3b to work.
I looked at updating the firmware and I’m not sure how to go about. I don’t have a windows partition to easily install the firmware. I don’t think that is the problem though.
I have made coasters when I allowed k3b to choose the speed automatically and it burnt the DVD at too high a speed. The blank is supposed to be capable of 16x but apparently the burner isn’t up to even 8x despite what the specs say. When I limited the speed in k3b to 4x or 2x, I had no more problems.
This is also where firmware updates of the burner might help. I didn’t bother though, I’ll just leave well enough alone.
hi.
i was just wanting to know if this error has been updated yet. because i just installed opensuse 11 gnome, and i cannot burn any DVD/CD either. brasero shows me the same input/output error.
my laptop used to burn discs fine with Fedora 9. but this is the only hitch i have after my move from F 9 to Opensuse 11. otherwise, i love it.
i know this post is old, but please reply to confirm.
I found that both my set of disc’s were in the third catagory and were only fit for landfill. I purchased some “Taiyo Yudew” disc’s on line and they all burn 100%.
It may not be a program, but more the fault of really bad blanks.
I am using Sony DVD-R. it was in the first category. so it is really not a problem with the discs. thanks for the link, though. I had read the same link before from ubuntuforums.
i hope it gets resolved in 11.1 though. it seems that this is a problem not just with opensuse 11, but a lot of the newer versions of other distros. especially the application brasero.
