DVD authoring programms do not work! Help!

hallo guys!

I want burn a complete normal DVD that can be played in an normal DVD player.
My source file is capsuled in .mp4 and about 1.3 GB large.

I have tried to use mandvd1, mandvd2, bombono DVD and KMediaFactory.

mandvd doesn´t produce the correct output: I every time get an error-message that says there is a problem with the menu-creation. I have installed the latest package of DVDauthor.

mandvd2 doesnt work at all: The rendering process is completed after 6 seconds.

I can´t start KMEdiaFactory:
“KMediaFactory uses “MJPEG Tools (mpeg2enc)”, and this has not been found on your system.
You must install this before KMediaFactory can continue.”
However mpjec tools are installed.

bombono DVD doesn’t´t create an iso but a corrupt mpeg file.

I really need good advice here, I can´t fix it alone.
I never could solve a single problem with the community. I think now its time to start.

greez

I use devede

most folks around here use K3b, its in the normal openSUSE repos…

trying K3b is where i would start!

Guys

devede doesn´t work either the jod is done after ONE minute!. And K3b is not able to convert, its just burns the dvd structure to a disk.

sry, but I need better advice

is there a special package I need?
a special configuration to set??

come on you have to know this

Have you installed the full monty
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

Yes caf4926, I´ve installed everything.

But I am still not able to produce a Standard DVD on openSUSE.
I´ve tried four programs now, but every single on fails during the encoding process.

A key package must be corrupted or something in this way.
I´ts really important for me to burn this disk. I really need a solution.
Can´t I try something more?

Ok, now I´ am getting a little bit desperate.

All key packages like DVDauthor of ffmpeg are most up to date but the errors are still there. Every program fails during the encoding process and I have absolutely no idea what could be the source of this problem.

I really need help from an experienced user…

How I usually make my DVD’s is with Kdenlive I get it into .VOB format then use DVDStyler to create the .ISO then K3B to burn onto disk.
Although I will say I too am having difficulty with the Packman packages in the last month. Some shared lib is/was broken for a while. Not sure if it’s fixed yet.

Until now we have not seen some detailed information. To get this can you do
the following:
Open a terminal and type devede
All output including errors goes now to the terminal.
Create a simple dvd with one video file (which fails).
Copy the output from the terminal and post it here if is not to long.

Without seeing what your system really shows as a problem everything is just
wild guessing.
It may be a missing codec, it maybe a segfault of a subprocess, it may be
everything only the goods in the center of the earth know.

Please use esp. devede since you said it is finished after a minute. I
expect that the mencoder which it uses for encoding spits out a useful
explanation why it finishes.

This is now just guessing. How much space is free in /var/temp?
Meanwhile I check on my other machine where devede stores what while it
converts a video.

This last setting is strange in your output, it seems devede uses not only
/var/tmp but also the root folder for the temporary storage. See the last
line in the quote and compare it to the corresponding output from my machine
where it works

Temp Directory is: /var/tmp
home load: /home/martinh/.devede
linea: video_format:pal

linea: temp_folder:/var/tmp/

/ is of course not writable for you, so it has to fail. Did you somehow
change your settings by accident where temporary files are stored?
This would explain the message about missing space and it gives also a
possible explanation why all your dvd converters fail, they most likely need
all a writable folder for temporary files.

No I changed nothing.
Of course one of my first thoughts was the free space in temp (about 20 Gbs).

I will check one the output folder, but the main problem is that every authoring program fails, not only devede. So I believe there is a connection between the software-errors.

I changed now my devede-tmp directory in /tmp, but the result is the same:
The job is done in 1-2 minutes, the data is corrupt.

Did you precisely look at the devede output to see if the line

linea: temp_folder:/

is no longer there but points to a valid writable folder?

Iam desperate.

I run out of ideas, what does

su -
zypper verify

tell you?
Are updates available which you did not yet install

su -
zypper up

Before you do that, can you post the output from

zypper lr -d

to see if there are conflicting repositories?

Sorry to bump this topic, but im getting the exact same behaviour.
After exactly 1:34, the encoding process of an almost 5Gb .mkv file is done.

Of course the output file is no good.
Have both latest devede and dvdauthor versions from packman.

Its not a problem of RAM memory either, did an exhaustive 10 hour test and no errors!

So system is 100% stable, issue must be within Devede or one of its dependencies

If anyone else is having this issue, the creator of the tool helped me with the solution:

Your version of Mencoder seems to be very recent, and there's a bug in
the AC3 codec on that versions. The version of Devede in the GIT
repository includes a workaround for that. Just download it (the
instructions are in my homepage) and turn on the workaround
(edit->settings).
