During login password is accepted only at second attempt

Greetings to all.

I have a fresh install of OpenSUSE 12.1, KDE 4.7.4 (installed from Index of /repositories/KDE:/Release:/47/openSUSE_12.1).

I need to enter user password twice to log into the system. After first attempt the system tells me that I’ve entered username/password wrong (red color in username and password field, you know…). Generally speaking, during first attempt I can enter anything (right password, something else) and I’ll have en error. During second trial anything works OK.

This bug appears only for GUI login (not for terminal).

Although it’s not critical, I can say it’s annoying. Please, help me with this thing.

Best regards, Aleksey.

I’ve experienced this, but I think the correct explanation is that the first time, for some reason, the widget is slow to accept characters and loses some. Count the dots and you will see that the first time, your typed in password is not as long as it should be. Type it in slowly and it will be correct. I haven’t searched the database to see if this has been reported yet.

BTW this is with the standard KDE that comes with 12.1 (4.7.2?).

See Bug 728554 for more on this.

Has it been reported. I am getting this same behavior on 12.1. That is, the login screen is very slow to accept characters from the keyboard.

It happens to me too! :expressionless:

I guess you missed the post directly above your own . . .

There is a bug in the opensuse variant of kdm.
If it really annoys you a temporary solution would be to uninstall kdm-branding-opensuse and replace it with kdm-branding-upstream
You will lose the Opensuse look in kdm if you do this though.
