Duel Boot System and Win 10 Upgrade

I have a duel boot system with opensuse and win 8.1. I would like to upgrade to win 10 but I am running into problems with the way my computer boots up, the windows upgrade doesn’t seem to like how my computer doesn’t automatically boot into windows. I did a search but was unable to find anything specific. If anyone could help or point to a thread that will help me upgrade I promise lots of good karma points headed your way!
Thanks
Sean

That’s two boots fighting each other with swords or pistols?

I had a similar problem with Vista and a service pack.

Assuming this uses legacy booting, then the main issue is which partition is marked as active. Windows uses the active partition to locate its BCD (Boot Configuration Data). So you probably need to make the Windows partition the active partition. Then change it back later.

I’ve also seen some reports of the update changing partition numbers and causing problems for linux booting. So I suggest you make sure you have good backups before you start.

Note that I have no personal experience with Windows 10. My current inclination is to not upgrade.
