Dual monitor Dell GX280 OpenSuse 11

I am trying to get dual displays to work with OpenSuse 11. What should be a simple task has turned into a nightmare exceeding almost a day. Anyways, I have it now where I get a signal light, green light on the other monitor, and the primary monitor is working. I am using the integrated Intel 915G video along with a PCI ATI Radeon x1300. It appears the display always wants to use the x1300 card, not sure what is up with that.

I am including my xorg.conf file that is currently being used. I have a two LCD monitors both Dell. One is a E196FP, not working but getting a green light not amber, the other to the right of this one is a Dell 1905FP. I have tried several times to follow the directions outlined on this Cool Solutions write up, Cool Solutions: Three-Screen Xinerama on SUSE Linux 10 - cheap but I still cannot get dual displays to work.

I looked at the link you posted. Is this the site you were referencing? Xorg RandR 1.2 - ThinkWiki

This looks like it is for Ubuntu but I am assuming it is the same for all distros? I’ll give it a try tomorrow and post how everything goes.

Is this just for laptops? I am using a Desktop with 1 19" screen connected to the onboard Intel VGA and another 19" LCD screen connected to an ATI Radeon x1300 PCI card connected using the VGA, not DVI connector.

It appears most of the RandR tool is for laptops connected to another monitor for dual displays.

To be honest I confused Dual Monitor with dual head, so you are right the post I highligthed was for one Video card with two output, but probably xrandr could be useful for discovery how your configuration is working.

I have the problem solved. For those in the same boat, ATI has a utility called ATI Catalyst Control Center which comes with the SUSE ATI package, I only downloaded the ATI drivers and this was there. I was able to use a DVI to VGA adapter and use both monitors with that one card. I couldn’t get the onboard Intel graphics to work with the card or vice-versa. So using the x1300 card with both VGA monitors connected using a DVI to VGA adapter I now have dual monitors working. rotfl!
