I am having a few strange issues with my new SUSE 11.3 install. This is my first time attempting to use it as my full time OS, so I can’t say if these problems existed in previous versions.
1.) When I configure extended desktop, it works fine, but the settings do not save. Anytime I reboot my system, I have to reconfigure the Dual Display settings
2.) If I enable openGL effects, or use an OpenGL screen saver my system locks up and I can not restart X. (I have to power cycle the computer)
3.) I get corrupt icons sometimes in my system tray and desktop. (They look like a TV that is tuned into a non broadcasting number)
I have a Quadro 1700, and I read about installing the NVIDIA drivers instead of the ones that come with SUSE. That looks a bit complicated, so if there is an easy way to at least solve issue #1 that would make me pretty happy!!
Ok, So I saw a thread about the Nvidia 1 click install that was added today, so I gave it a try. OpenGL and Icons seem to be fixed, but now I do not even have an option for a 2nd display to extend my desktop.
So, I had to use the NVIDIA control panel to config the dual display, then save the .conf file. Then I had to use sudo to copy it to /etc/X11 folder. After that, my settings seem to stick. I hope maybe this helps someone.
Hi
I was using OpenSuSE 11.2 for last years with dual monitor using nVidia drivers without problems. Now, I gave a chance to “noveau” and have exactly same problem like you. Configuration is lost anytime I enter to my user. I take 3 minutes to configure my dual display anytime I close my session (not only after a reboot) so I think is a problem related with noveau driver. Moreover, my installation is really an upgrade from OpenSuSE 11.2, and yours was clean.
Any solution about this before installing nvidia drivers :|?
Thank you
