Hi Guys i currently have 2 Partitions on my Computer, One for Windows 7 and an empty one that i want to use for Suse, I wonder what kind of like boot loader do i need to make the dual booting easy, i want to make sure how to install it so i don’t have issues like only One OS running after installing suse
Pre-post: a very warm welcome here.
First, I would remove the partition meant to install openSUSE on. It will remove it anyway, since the filesystem is a windu filesystem.
Second, openSUSE will create a bootloader with an entry in it for W7. This will allow you to choose between running openSUSE / W7.
Third, a bit of explanation: openSUSE will by default create 3 partitions, i.e. one for the OS ("/" or the “root”), one for swap, and one for the user homedirectories ("/home"). On a next version’s install it will leave “/home” untouched, so that all your settings and docs will be preserved and reused in the new openSUSE version. The default bootloader for openSUSE is GRUB, it takes care of multiboot perfectly.
Even if you run into issues, we’re here to help you through things. A very decent thing to do before you install is to read NEW Users - Suse-11.2 Pre-installation – PLEASE READ - openSUSE Forums by our valued member oldcpu.
I’d like to add this as some personal advice: take your time, take it easy, spend time here reading and searching, and remember you did not learn the windu methods all in one day. Oops, forgot: enjoy !!
