Just to clear up some issues which i found when trying to install Suse to a UEFI System.
Windows 8 is installed at the first Harddisk (sda) with a EFI partition present (/dev/sda2)
openSuse should be installed to the second Harddisk (sdb) the installer correctly identfies the new Harddisks and wants to create the needed Partitions. What consuses me is that he wants also create a UEFI partition on the second Harddisk (/dev/sdb2) so is it needed or should i just mount the Windows UEFI partition in sda2 as /boot/efi ?
Thanks in advance
It can work either way.
I created an EFI partition on my second disk for my install. And I’m glad I did, as it helped me get past some of the problems with UEFI and the way it is implemented in my BIOS. However, if I were starting over, I would just use the same EFI partition as Windows. The difference is that I now understand UEFI better.
The UEFI partition on “/dev/sdb” is supported pretty well by my BIOS (on a Dell Inspiron 660). It might not be as well suported in other implementations of UEFI.
And a final note: if you run into problems with UEFI, post here (this thread or a new thread), and we will try to help.
Thanks for your help. Everything worked out perfect. Installed the EFI to /dev/sdb2 and no issues so far.
