Dropbox system tray icon missing

Hello,

I don’t know if it’s a DropBox issue, sorry. System tray icon is not displayed.
However, the application works just fine.

Thanks.

Matteo

And what desktop are you using?

If it’s Plasma5 (KDE), there is a known issue that on some systems the dropbox and other old-style icons are displayed completely transparent.
This has been fixed on Sunday, an update is on the way for Leap 42.1 and should be in the update repo early next week.

If you cannot (or do not want to) wait for the update, you can already install it now from the update-test repo:

sudo rpm -Uvh http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.1-test/x86_64/xembed-sni-proxy-0.0.1git~20151104~ded1538-3.1.x86_64.rpm

Thanks wolfi323 for quick reply.
Yes, I confirm you desktop is Plasma 5 KDE.
Good to know the update is on the way!

Thanks a lot.

Matteo

Hi wolfi323,

Has this bug now been fixed in the stock Leap 42.1 repos? I still do not get the pidgin icon in my system tray. It does not appear to be displayed transparently either whereas, a few days ago, it was a transparent space between the other icons in my system tray.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hello Gordon,

I had to execute the command suggested above to make it appear (Dropbox icon). I can confirm Yast update did not solved it.
Run the update and reboot.
Hope it helps.

sudo rpm -Uvh http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.1-test/x86_64/xembed-sni-proxy-0.0.1git~20151104~ded1538-3.1.x86_64.rpm

Yes.

I still do not get the pidgin icon in my system tray. It does not appear to be displayed transparently either whereas, a few days ago, it was a transparent space between the other icons in my system tray.

Then you have a different issue.

Is dropbox actually running? Use the system monitor (Ctrl+ESC) to check.

Is it hidden maybe? Try to click on the up arrow next to the clock.

This is not available any more, as it has been released as update.
Try to click on that link you posted…

My bad! Ok I got it, thanks.

Thanks wolfi323, The Pidgin icon is now being displayed properly. I’m not sure what I did to make it happen but its now working.

Gordon

Hi,

just have the same problem. No dropbox icon. Under opensuse 42.1, all up to date. Tried to install xembed-sni-proxy but plasma5 must downgraded in this case which I have not done. Seems that xembed-sni-proxy does not work with the newest plasma5. :frowning:

cheers
Jürgen

Have you looked at the date of this thread?
It doesn’t apply at all any more.

Tried to install xembed-sni-proxy but plasma5 must downgraded in this case which I have not done. Seems that xembed-sni-proxy does not work with the newest plasma5. :frowning:

The “newest plasma5” includes xembed-sni-proxy (since 5.5.0), there’s no point to install the old stand-alone version we only offered so that there is old-style system tray icon support in Plasma 5.4 (as shipped with Leap 42.1).

And it wouldn’t help either.

The problem you experience is a bug in dropbox (not something in KDE), it just doesn’t create an icon if it detects a new-style system tray.
See here for a workaround:

I have the same issue. The work around I use is command line Dropbox.

> dropbox --help
Dropbox command-line interface

commands:

Note: use dropbox help <command> to view usage for a specific command.

status get current status of the dropboxd
help provide help
puburl get public url of a file in your dropbox
stop stop dropboxd
running return whether dropbox is running
start start dropboxd
filestatus get current sync status of one or more files
ls list directory contents with current sync status
autostart automatically start dropbox at login
exclude ignores/excludes a directory from syncing
lansync enables or disables LAN sync

> dropbox status
Dropbox isn’t running!
> dropbox start -i
Starting Dropbox…Dropbox isn’t running!
Done!
> dropbox status
Starting…
> dropbox status
Starting…
> dropbox status
Syncing (1,361 files remaining)
Indexing 1,359 files…

The Dropbox client can be downloaded with zypper “zypper install dropbox”.
